Trip To Salzburg

October 31, 2006 | 10:11

salzburg.pngSandra and I recently went to Salzburg for a two-day-culture-and-seightseeing-trip. We arrived on Friday forenoon, checked in at the Astoria, and then travelled to the House of Nature by bus (what I found very impressive is that Salzburg’s omnibus lines are operated electrically). After the House of Nature, which is a mixture of a museum for technics and one for natural history, we went to the Getreidegasse, which is THE shopping street in Salzburg (which proves to be true when inspecting the prices), and Sandra popped her Louis-Vuitton-cherry when we walked into the Salzburg LV store. That handbag she wants costs 580 bucks, but I think it is worth it - handcrafted things do cost - and as long as I don’t have to buy them … ;-)

Followed by that exquisite experience we moved on for lunch to - take a guess - the Maredo Steak House :-) With full stomach and all footsore we moved on to the stronghold Hohensalzburg, which can be reached by foot or with the Festungsbahn, a train especially built for lame tourists :-) 40 seconds later and 18 bucks needier we arrived on top of the Kapuzinerberg, where Hohensalzburg is located. We visited some exhibitions and after that drove back to our appartement.

On thing I love about Salzburg is, that most of the buildings in the inner city are carved out of stone, which leads to a shortage of space. I went to a tobacconist, where 2 ladies worked behind the desk, one of them was pregnant. Who ever said that where one body resides there may not be another one was not right in this case. Those two ladies kind of superposed each other. And when I walked out the two customers behind me had to get out too - first in, all out so to say :-)

One Saturday Sandra and I visited the zoo in Salzburg, and Sandra seized her chance, when we walked into the petting zoo

streichelzoo.jpg

After that we drove to Lower Austria again, to visit a fellow student of Sandra whose parents run what we call Heuriger in Austria. The one thing special about that is that they serve ostrich meat which just tastes delicious ;-)

Was a nice two-day-trip, the run-in of our BMW is accomplished, and the number of region captials we still have to visit decreased from six to five :-)

Warning Notices In Smoking Scenes

October 25, 2006 | 08:30

nosmoking.pngMy colleague at work, Fritz, called my attention to an article on orf.at. The Weinstein Company, founded by legendary Bob and Harvey Weinstein (to be true, I’ve never heard anything about those two) commit theirself to providing their DVDs which are produced after December 2006 with warning notices when ever there is a smoking scene.

Imagine Rambo VII dropping atom bombs everywhere as he walks, killing an enormous number of people, giving everyone a headshot, women, children, he doesn’t care at all. And as he lights up a cigarette, dangling at the corner of his mouth, a “Smoking causes cancer” notice pops up. I hate the US double moral standard. Having the highest porn sales worldwide (and largest porn market) and to say that sex before marriage is a sin doesn’t suit me at all. Come on! We’re living in the 21st century, if someone wants to smoke she/he just will, and if she/he dies of lung cancer she/he has to blame her/himself, not the Marlboro Man!

Return Of My PSP

| 08:12

PSPI picked my PSP up yesterday (the UMD slot had to be repaired) and judging from the date of the post where I mentioned that it needs to be repaired, two months have passed. This means that if I had returned the PSP to Amazon, it would have arrived at the earliest in December. I would like to thank Mr. Schöffmann from Sony Computer Entertaiment Austria for his advice and efforts to get my PSP repaired and Mr. Krenn from Powerplay Lugner City, who instantiated the repairing procedure. Powerplay also equipped me with a brand new Value Pack, because of Sony keeping my Giga Pack (I returned the complete box, not only the PSP itself) :D

All About Andi

October 23, 2006 | 08:34

And here it is: *fanfare* The All About Andi post, a post all about Andi :-)
I first met Andi back in 2004, when we and some false friends met every week to play billard in Neunkirchen. We soon recognized that we’ve lot in common. We’re both into cars, ass and everything else that is important for 23yr old male :-) Since then I found a very good friend in him, we meet a lot and laugh with - and about each other. A friend until death so to say.

This summer we joined together for a nice one week vacation in Tuscany (along with our girlfriends Margit and Sandra), for culinary delightfulness, Italian shirts, a good tan and to test Italian highhways to their limits, especially to find out that Italian tunnels have much better acoustics than Austrian ones.

Andi is the reason why I got to know the Maredo Steak House.

Andi works for the Austrian Judiciary Service, and so to say helps that the bad guys get the treatment they deserve, drives a neat Honda Civic, wears shirts with ‘PIMP - Still A Playa’, ‘Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow’ and ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics’ imprints, owns a rudder engine for workout, loves to play Battlefield 2, doesn’t eat fish (except fish fingers) and everything else that still has a face when served.
He gets hiccups when drinking Pepsi, and loves Steaks, and vegetarians aren’t his first choice.

Vegetarians eat the food of my food away

He knows all about the penal code, and how to kill someone within 3 seconds. He hates Sarah Jessica Parker and German soap operas.

I hope Gerner kills them all.

He likes to watch Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies, can imitate the sound of Bud Spencer punchinig someone right in the neck, and how a car sounds while drifting.
He knows how to play miniature golf and bowling more than anyone else - he always leads the score boards.
Andi is the kind of guy you have to battle with, and although you give all your best he is the winner.

I’m always giving 22 percent and that’s enough.

Andi is not the biggest fan of musicals, but has the munchies for Chuck Norris movies. A perfect Andi-four-course-menu consists of steak, steak, steak and a banana split.

Steak is staple food.

He’s a friend money can’t buy!

Sante D’Orazio Exhibiton

October 21, 2006 | 22:50

pam.pngToday Margit, Andi, Sandra and I to broaden our cultural horizon at the Sante D’Orazio exhibiton at Kunsthaus Wien. D’Orazio’s photographs of celebrities were fun to see, but we spent more time in the Kunsthaus café :-) Afterwards we saunterd down Kärnter Straße to Stephansplatz and then to the Maredo Steak House (for some refreshments in terms of steak). The underground parking lot (Kärnterstraßen Garage) we drove in was packed with some nice cars, especially two, identical in construction, Aston Martin DB9, both LHD vehicles and both with GB license plate, some Porsche Cayenne S, Mercedes CLS and some AMG’s. And the finest car of them all, the police Smart:

And I thought emergency vehicles should be fast ;) And I’m already working on the completely ‘About Andi’ post which I promised to write for Andi today at Maredo Steak House - hold on! :D

Train Station Debacle

October 20, 2006 | 08:37

oebb.pngManiac asked Schotti (who works for the Austrian Railroad - www.oebb.at) if it is true that in 2007 or 2008, the main train station of Vienna - the Südbahnhof is going to be renovated and therefore going to be closed - meaning that the tracks will end in Meidling. It is true that 60 to 70 percent of all passengers want to exit in Meidling, but those other 30 to 40 percent want to travel beyond. So this leads to the problem, that those 30 to 40 percent have to get out in Meidling, take the subway, tramway or bus, drive around Südbahnhof, and then continue their daily pilgrimage to work or university. Independently from that conversation I witnessed at Wednesday’s billard session, a good friend of mine, who I haven’t seen in years, used the same train home yesterday as Sandra and I did, and asked me if it is true, that Südbahnhof is going to be shut down completely. This is how rumors spread, and if you hear something you aren’t sure about, from someone you haven’t seen in the last 3 years, then it could be the bitter truth. I’ve absolutely no problem when it comes to travelling by foot, but the distance from Meidling to the soon to be refurbished Südbahnhof is about five kilometres, which takes a normal human being 60 minutes. So this means that from the day on that Meidling will be the last stop, I’ve to get up one hour earlier to arrive at work at the same time as usual. But I could take the bus, or subway (but those 30 to 40 percent will too), and I would have to buy a monthly ticket again, which would cost me about 35 euros. Sandra still holds that the OeBB just can not shut down the entire train station, but judging from past failures I am very certain that I need to buy new shoes. I still remember that one day in January when it was just fucking cold, and the OeBB had recently rose their ticket prices just to serve free hot tea in the train stations for freezing passengers. Nice job, but it is not always that cold, I’ve never seen the OeBB squandering money for free cold beverages :)

Problems With Internet Explorer

October 19, 2006 | 09:53

noie.pngWolfgang called my attention yesterday to a problem displaying my site in IE. Currently IE dies stops loading after showing the preview picture of the first two mac ads, then two empty frames for the third mac ad and the first chad vader episode. I cannot certainly say why this happens, the page validates as XHTML1.1 and can be displayed in any other browser. IE7 also doesn’t work. If possible use a different browser in the meantime. If not stay tuned until those pesky vids don’t show up on the first page :D
