This year’s Maker-Faire event inspired two researchers to copy Nikola Tesla‘s experiment in which he proved that wireless transfer of electricity is possible over long distances with his very own Tesla coil (in his case: 1 million volts over 40 kilometres resulting in transmitted energy sufficient to enlighten 200 light bulbs):

Low efficiency of the test-arrangement caused only 1 percent of the original voltage to be transferred. The researchers also stated that this technology is still in its infancy and yet to be refined.
