CenterStage

At the time there is no proper media center for Mac OS X. That’s the plain truth. iTunes pretends to be, but doesn’t support codecs like divx and the like. FrontRow on the other side is nice for playing content from iTunes and iPhoto, a movie on a DVD or content in your Movies folder, but I miss that one application that can play everything. And then I came across CenterStage. It is currently in alpha status, but I gave it a try and I must say that it IS a proper media center software. Here are some points from the developers roadmap:
0.6.2: Music improvements & General stability
- Enhancements to the Music section
- Make CS more stable
- Improvements to the core functionality, make a solid basis
0.6.3: Preferences & Subtitles
- Enhancements to prepare new UI implementation
- Preferences
- Subtitles
- On Screen Display enhancements
0.6.4: VLC
- Integrate the VLC Framework as playback engine
0.6.5: Bonjour support
- Bonjour support for BackStage
- Enhancements to BackStage
- More new UI
0.6.6: New UI
- New skin with final UI
Integrating the VLC framework seems a wonderful idea to me ![]()
