Hasta La Vista
February 3, 2007 | 00:49
Andi and I came across Windows Vista today. Some blokes from Microsoft offered a deeper insight into the ‘OS of all OSs’ at the mall in Wiener Neustadt today. Before I go on I should mention that I’m no ‘OS Nazi” - I’ve worked and am still working with Mac OS, Linux and Windows, so I think I can give you a fairminded review of what I’ve seen today. Comparing those 3 is like comparing apples to pears - literally.

Which Desktop Has The Biggest Balls
August 30, 2006 | 17:35
Which Desktop has more eye-candy for its users, which one does more 3D effects, translucency and whirrling thingies. But you have to decide for yourselves, which one is best: XGL/Compiz (Linux), Aqua (Mac) or Aero (Microsoft). I have to admit that I like all 3, but judging from the hardware costs to bring those effects to life, I’d prefer Linux.
Linux XGL/Compiz
Apple Aqua With Spaces
Windows Vista Aero
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS / iTunes for Linux
June 9, 2006 | 11:53
I’ve installed the very new Ubuntu version on my other HDD the other day, and I must say that it’s just perfect out-of-the-box. I also installed the XGL/Compiz packages for superb 3D-Desktop enhancements. But I use Windows XP most of the time because of CounterStrike Source, Battlefield 2 and iTunes. I could live with playing CSS under Linux but I’m still waiting for Apple to release an iTunes Version for Linux systems, and I don’t think that it is a matter of programming difficulties but the lack of market. So here’s my call to Apple:
Please port iTunes to Linux! I’m in a desperate need for an application that corresponends with my iPod in an appropriate way!
One once said: “Linux is for working, Windows is for Solitaire” was right, because I switched from Windows to Linux once and didn’t miss anything, except those things we all hate about using Microsoft products.
I know that there are solutions for my problem, e.g. CrossOverOffice, but I want a more native solution.
Anyhow, I’ll try to bring iPodLinux to my iPod today ![]()

What A Weekend
November 2, 2005 | 18:23This weekend was so turbulent:
On Friday the USB backup disk frame of the databaseserver at work died, I fixed that today.
On Sunday I decided to join a LAN session at a friends house on Tuesday, so I installed a HDD frame, and when I had loosen the last screw of my HDD, it fell down and my fine working ubuntu was gone.
On Monday I decided to buy a new 200 GB HDD, which my BIOS won’t recognize.
On Tuesday I played Battlefield 1942 at the LAN session, Battlefield 2 didn’t work because of my lame ATI RADEON 9000 graphic card.
On Tuesday I reinstalled ubuntu on the HDD which fell down, and it worked. Something stranged must have happened during the 30 cm fall
.
By the way, I used Windows XP to play Battlefield, so I came to the decision to sell my 200 GB HDD via eBay, buy another 80 GB HDD, to install Windows (just for gaming purposes), and buy a new graphic card.
At the end I’ve learned that dropping HDDs isn’t good in any way, Ubuntu is an operating system, Windows is a joke, ASUS mainboards suck, and that 64MB graphic cards aren’t suitable for LAN sessions.
