At the time there is no proper media center for Mac OS X. That’s the plain truth. iTunes pretends to be, but doesn’t support codecs like divx and the like. FrontRow on the other side is nice for playing content from iTunes and iPhoto, a movie on a DVD or content in your Movies folder, but I miss that one application that can play everything. And then I came across CenterStage. It is currently in alpha status, but I gave it a try and I must say that it IS a proper media center software. Here are some points from the developers roadmap:
0.6.2: Music improvements & General stability
0.6.3: Preferences & Subtitles
0.6.4: VLC
0.6.5: Bonjour support
0.6.6: New UI
Integrating the VLC framework seems a wonderful idea to me ![]()
Here is a demo video of CenterStage
Keep up the good work guys!
Seems like nothing ever happens in my life that is worth enough to be written down and told to the world. At least the last few days where not quite exciting as usual. Made some nightly pictures of my BMW 1er, had to test the tripod Sandra gave me as birthday present.
I also changed the theme on my mac, because nobody at the macuser.de forums would make me a proper itunes skin for this theme
To be honest the macuser.de forums only consist of flaming assholes, telling me to buy windows xp, or move to the teletubby house. Not everyone associates blue and green with windows. They do and they suck
I now use UNO 1.5 to get a persistent design for all my mac apps. I know that the standard Aqua theme is one of the best, but a little bit of individualism doesn’t hurt ![]()
And to kill some time I’ve designed a new logo for my website
I thought a bit webtwodotnil would not be amiss.
I don’t think that until Saturday, April 10th anything remarkable will happen. Ah, yes, my parents will return on Friday from their trip around the world. This means I’ll have to pick them up from the airport, will hopefully receive my origami paper and some other presents from Nippon and Down Under, and that I’ll spend the next weekends cutting their movie evidence of their trip ![]()
Andi and I came across Windows Vista today. Some blokes from Microsoft offered a deeper insight into the ‘OS of all OSs’ at the mall in Wiener Neustadt today. Before I go on I should mention that I’m no ‘OS Nazi” - I’ve worked and am still working with Mac OS, Linux and Windows, so I think I can give you a fairminded review of what I’ve seen today. Comparing those 3 is like comparing apples to pears - literally.

Which Desktop has more eye-candy for its users, which one does more 3D effects, translucency and whirrling thingies. But you have to decide for yourselves, which one is best: XGL/Compiz (Linux), Aqua (Mac) or Aero (Microsoft). I have to admit that I like all 3, but judging from the hardware costs to bring those effects to life, I’d prefer Linux.
Linux XGL/Compiz
Apple Aqua With Spaces
Windows Vista Aero
